Pack a picnic not a BBQ and say no to campfires.

The advice from Surrey Fire and Rescue as our area is set to enjoy several days of hot dry weather.

With the summer holidays and lockdown easing, more people are expected to be enjoying Surrey's outdoor spaces but we are being urged to stay safe and look after the countryside.

Spencer Nicholls, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service’s Wildfire and Rural Partnerships Officer, said:

“We’ve been working really hard with landowners since the two big wildfires at Chobham and Thursley Commons last year.

With lockdown restrictions easing, we need to remind everyone to stay safe and look after our beautiful countryside this summer.

"My main tips would be:

  • Pack a picnic – barbecue in our outdoor spaces are very dangerous in such dry, hot conditions. You may think the barbecue is out, but they often aren’t as they’ve been so dangerously hot for so long.
  • Say no to campfires – please do not host campfires, they easily spread out of control and are not necessary.
  • Please take litter home with you.

“Wildfires spread really quickly so if you see a fire, dial 999 immediately. We all deserve a better summer this year, us included.”
