Today (September 28), a food festival boasting over a 100 stalls and live music is returning to a Surrey town centre

Farnham city centre will be closed to road traffic as the annual Farnham Food and Drink Festival returns for its 16th year.

From 10am to 4pm today (September 28), Castle Street and The Borough will be packed with more than 100 food and drink stalls.

Oliver Cluskey, who is the events manager for Farnham Town Council says that it's a special day in the annual calendar

"I say the Farnham Food Festival is probably one of the most vibrant events of our of our calendar in Farnham. It's always really busy.

It's always one of those ones where you don't really have to advertise and people just come and and from all all areas around Farnham. It's fantastic."

As well as food and drink, Cluskey spelt out what else the festival has to offer

"There's a demonstration stage at the bottom of Castle St. looking up at the castle, which is amazing. We've got two music stages and also a talk stage as well at the Bush Hotel courtyard.

There's some drinks demonstrations. I think there's a honey demonstration, then there's a performance area at the end of the borough as well. So there's plenty to do apart from apart from just the food stalls."

Cluskey added that although the variety available at the festival is huge due to people coming from all over to set up stalls, they put an emphasis on local businesses

"I'd say the majority are local in particular Surrey I would say, and it's one thing we do try and do is support local business

But obviously you can't have all local businesses because we don't want to miss out on some gems from further afield"

To help manage crowds, visitors are encouraged to use a free hoppa shuttle bus. Seven buses will serve three routes covering Hale and Upper Hale in north Farnham, Badshot Lea and Weybourne, and south Farnham.

For those travelling by car, there is free Sunday parking in all Waverley Borough Council pay-and-display car parks.
