A Farnborough man who fly-tipped his old fence panels has had to pay a £200 Fixed Penalty Notice.

The resident, who lives on the Pinewood Park estate, dumped the waste on an unregistered track, which runs between the estate and Lakeside Gardens, at the end of April.

He has now paid the fine, which the council issued after being tipped off by a member of the public.

When spoken to by Rushmoor Borough Council’s Community Patrol Officers the man – who cannot be named for legal reasons - admitted he should not have dumped them.

Fly-tippers currently face a maximum FPN of £400 (reduced to £200 for early payment) or, if prosecuted in court, an unlimited fine.

Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Operational Services, Councilor Maurice Sheehan, said: “We will continue to investigate every case of fly-tipping with a view to strong enforcement.

“The illegal dumping of waste damages the environment, brings huge risks to public health and costs so much to clear up.

"Fighting this blight will remain a top priority for us."
