Father's Day run set to raise money for Farnham Hospice
The 'Run For The Wards' event is taking place this Sunday, in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell
Walkers and runners in Surrey have the chance to get jogging, in an event that will raise money for a Farnham hospice.
On Sunday, which is also Father's Day, a run and walk is taking place to raise funds for Phyllis Tuckwell.
Participants can choose either a five or ten mile route, located around the Hampton Estate. Private areas of the estate are being opened specifically for the event.
The Run and Walk will both raise vital funds to help Phyllis Tuckwell continue providing the supportive and end of life care which it offers to local patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. As the NHS and Government usually only covers about 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 a day to provide its care, which is why events such as this are so important.
Entry is £10 for adults and £4 for children if registered by Friday 16th June, with prices higher on the day. Dogs are welcome on a lead. Runners will start their run at 9.15am, before the Walkers begin at 9.30am, and there will be a free ice cream at the end for all who take part.
Fiona Chapman, who is the Events Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell, said "Every penny that is raised goes towards hospice care in the local community. We would be very grateful for anyone who can take part and get sponsored. It would be absolutely fantastic and it would make a huge difference."
Fiona also explained why it's taking place on Father's Day.
"For those whose dads, or grandads are no longer with us, or fathers who may have lost a child... it's a chance to run with friends or family in their memory."
