The Harlington in Fleet is to begin life as vaccine centre this week as the roll-out of Covid-19 jabs continues.

Injections get underway for those aged over 65 - and will add to three other GP-led services already in the town.

The site - which usually operates as an entertainment venue - is being run by the NHS, Fleet surgeries, Fleet Town Council, Hart District Council and Hart Voluntary Action volunteers.

Residents will be invited by their local surgery for vaccination, with a date and a time of their appointment.

They will not need to access the national booking system.

Free and disabled parking spaces will be made available in Gurkha Square for those with appointments.

If vaccines are offered on Saturdays, parking will be available in the Council staff car park at the Civic Offices to allow the Fleet Saturday Market to continue in Gurkha Square.

Councillor Alan Oliver, Cabinet member for Parking and Highways, said: "We are proud to be supporting the vaccination centre in offering free parking for this vital service. It will be a great facility to help our local surgeries roll out their vaccination programme in a convenient and safe location."
