Petersfield food bank says its expecting 2023 to be another busy year - as it tries to help growing numbers of people in need.

The charity - which runs with help from local churches - says demand has risen significantly since energy and food costs have spiked.

They are worried this will result a further increase of people in need this year and a decrease in donations.

We spoke to Petersfield Food Bank Chair Elaine Knox.

She said: "We are a little bit worried going into the new year when the government stops supporting all households with energy prices.

"We are concerned that some of our regular donors may not be able to help us.

"Some people with mortgages and those dealing with the increased energy bills are going to find things really difficult.

"We think that we are going to be getting people coming along who never previously thought they would need food bank help."

Elaine Knox also told us that if anyone is available to make a donation to their local food bank, they should think about doing so more than ever.

In terms of what Petersfield Food Bank are in need of at the moment, the Chair said: "Currently we are very short on basics such as long-life milk, shampoo, custard and rice pudding.

"We've been very fortunate over the Christmas period to attract some lovely mince pies and cakes, but not we are really looking to get in as many staples as we can."

Donations can be made to Petersfield Methodist Church on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9.30 to 11.30.
