Driver who 'abandoned vehicle' following serious crash on M3 arrested

A woman remains in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries

A man has been arrested on suspicion of several offences following a crash on the M3.

Surrey Police were called to reports of a collision on a slip road between a HGV, van and a car near junction 3 for Lightwater and Bagshot yesterday evening at around 6:30pm (18 January).

When they arrived at the scene, a driver involved in the incident had abandoned their vehicle and was nowhere to be found.

Police Dog Oakley was brought in to track down the driver and he was found in woodland next to the motorway.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of:

Causing serious injury by dangerous driving

Failing to provide a specimen

Failing to stop at the scene of a collision

A 32-year-old woman remains in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
