Driver who hit level crossing in Farnham 'missed train by seconds'

Information has been passed to the British Transport Police to investigate.

Network Rail says a driver had who hit a level crossing in Farnham 'missed a passing train by seconds'.

The incident happened at around 10:15am today (2 September) at the crossing near Farnham station on Waverley Road.

Surrey Police also attended the incident and confirmed the driver suffered minor injuries and shock.

There was minor damage to the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said damage was caused to the barriers and there were minor delays to South Western Rail services while they were repaired.

Information has been passed to the British Transport Police to investigate.

The Network Rail spokesperson added: “This could easily have ended in tragedy and we urge drivers and pedestrians to pay attention to warning lights and barriers."
