Diesel spills into River Wey after 14,000 litres reportedly stolen in Guildford

An unknown amount of fuel spilled into the river

A large amount of diesel has been stolen from Guildford.

Police were called to the bus depot on Leas Road shortly before 5am yesterday morning (22 April) and it is estimated that more than 14,000 litres have been taken.

The theft is believed to have occurred between midnight and 4am yesterday morning.

It is believed that during the theft, an unknown amount of fuel leaked into the River Wey.

The environmental impact is being evaluated and Surrey Police are working with Surrey County Council, The Environment Agency, and The National Trust.
