Two deer have been rescued after becoming tangled in tape from an electric fence in Petersfield.

The pair of roe bucks had got their antlers caught together in a field near Tilmore Road on Saturday (10 April).

Inspector Rebecca Carter attended after receiving a call from a member of the public who had spotted the deer and thought they were tangled in a plastic carrier bag.

Rebecca said: “These poor deer had got themselves into quite a pickle. They both had their antlers caught in electric fencing tape which must have come loose from the nearby fences. They were struggling to free themselves and were trapped together which was making it even more stressful for them.

“I was grateful that Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services could come and help. Together we managed to contain one of the deer with my grasper and covered the other one to calm them down. They were then cut free of each other and the tape was removed.

“I gave them a check over to make sure they were both okay and thankfully neither one of the bucks were injured so I was able to release them straight away and they ran off unharmed.”
