The easing of coronavirus restrictions means Aldershot Lido can welcome visitors again this summer, Rushmoor Borough Council has said.

Having remained shut for all of last year due to the pandemic, the pool will reopen for the first time since 2019.

With great uncertainty still surrounding international travel this summer, swimmers and sunbathers will be able to make use of the Guildford Road site from the start of July until the beginning of September.

Rushmoor Borough Council’s Head of Operational Services, James Duggin, said: "We know that the re-opening of the Lido will provide a real boost for our local community and lift spirits after all the trials of the pandemic.

"This is a much-loved facility, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that that we are able to enjoy some fine weather this summer at the Lido.”

It is expected to cost £110,000 to get the Lido reopen again and a further £100,000 to keep it running throughout the season.

Before opening, the Lido will need a replacement water circulation pump and new Astro Turf around the pool side, and pool tank repairs, emptying and refilling will need to be carried out.

Places for People Leisure (PFPL), who were recently awarded a contract by the council to continue operating the Aldershot Pools Complex until the new Farnborough Leisure Centre is built, will also be running the Lido for the council.
