Man dies after car catches fire in fatal collision in Cranleigh

Police are now appealing for witnesses to help with their investigation

A man in his 20s has died after his car burst into flames following a serious car crash in Cranleigh.

Surrey Police were alerted to an incident taking place on Elmbridge Road just after 9:30pm on Friday (October 10th).

When officers arrived at the scene, they found that a single car had been involved in the collision, with the car eventually coming off the road and hitting a tree.

The car then proceeded to catch fire and eventually claimed the life of the driver of the car, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Elmridge Road was eventually closed between Horsham Road and Hewitts Road for several hours whilst forensic enquiries were carried out, but the road has since reopened.

The victim's next of kin has been informed of his death following the incident, as police are now appealing for any information regarding the crash.

Anyone who may have been driving a red Ford C Max just before the crash is being particularly sought after by investigating officers.

Otherwise, those who were driving in the area between 9:25pm and 9:30pm who may have any CCTV or dashcam footage is being urged to come forward.
