The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine will start to be rolled out across the UK from early next week.

We are the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer vaccine for use.

Care home residents and those who look after them will be offered the vaccine first.

Those aged 80 and over will be next on the list, alongside front line health and social care workers.

Some of the MP's for Surrey and East Hampshire have been sharing their reaction to the news.

MP for Woking, Jonathan Lord told Greatest Hits Radio:

“I’m delighted that the first vaccine has now been given approval for use in the U.K.

"There is light at the end of the tunnel and every likelihood that we will now ‘see off’ this ghastly virus over the coming months.”

East Hampshire's Damien Hinds said it shows the end is in sight:

"It's the really positive new we've all been waiting for.

"It gives real hope for the future and there may be other different vaccine programs also come through in similar ways."

Guildford MP Angela Richardson described the announcement as 'truly wonderful news'

Dr Ben Spencer who represents Runnymede and Weybridge tweeted to say it was 'great news' but that until a full vaccination programme can be delivered, we must continue to maintain social distancing.

The health secretary says the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccine will be "one of the biggest civilian efforts the country has seen".

The first doses of the jab - which is 95 percent effective - will be delivered in the coming days.
