Surrey County Council has said a continued exponential rise in COVID-19 cases in the county is a “cause for concern”.
More than 1,350 cases have been recorded in Surrey during the seven days to 24 October, putting the case rate at over 113 per 100,00 during that period – and higher than seen across the rest of the South East (102.5).
Meanwhile, Guildford now has a higher coronavirus case rate (136.2) than Elmbridge had when it was announced the borough would move into tier two restrictions (133.8).
Elmbridge remains the only borough in Surrey currently under tighter rules for areas classed as high risk.
In statement Surrey Council said that weekly cases “have continued to increase exponentially in Surrey, which is a cause for concern”.
A council spokesperson added: “We're also seeing signs of a shift in the median age, which tells us that infection rates in the older members of our community are starting to rise.
“What this means is that it's now crucial for everyone to follow the guidelines closely, to protect our loved ones and prevent further restrictions in Surrey."
