A Surrey children's charity says someone is stealing their donation boxes.

The Children's Trust support children with brain injuries and neurodisabilities.

They claim a man with fake ID has been visiting shops, garages and other businesses across the county to empty the collection boxes.

The charity believe he has been pretending to work for them since 2020.

Katie Roberts, Director of Fundraising and Communications, says:

“Since the Covid pandemic we have seen box collection donations fall from around £90,000 a year to £40,000 a year.

"People were obviously in shops less during lockdown, and now many shops have screens up in front of the boxes or only take card payments.”

"We’re deeply saddened that someone would choose to steal from a children’s charity, and in such a calculated way over time.

"We are hugely grateful to our supporters for their donations and assure them that we are doing everything possible to stop this from happening.”
