Arrests made in Godalming over 'cannabis edibles' which put teen in hospital
The incident happened on Sunday (6 June)
Two people have been arrested after two people including a teenage boy were taken to hospital after eating cannabis "edibles" over the weekend.
A 20-year-old man from Godalming was detained today (9 June) on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and is currently in custody.
A 41-year-old woman who was arrested on Sunday (6 June), on suspicion of the same offence has been released with no further action.
Both people who were taken to hospital, including a 15-year-old boy, have since been released.
Surrey Police say they had both been at the same address in Godalming earlier that evening (Sunday 6 June).
Waverley Borough Commander Inspector Sam Adcock said:
"We are continuing to build on the information we have already as to where these sweets came from, and have made a further arrest today.
"We are asking parents across the county to urgently speak to their children about the dangers of "edibles" and urge them to not be tempted to try them as they can obviously cause substantial harm.
“These types of products, which may be marketed as ‘cannabis infused’ or ‘THC infused’ are illegal, and therefore unregulated, in the UK.
"They can appear to be commercial products with professional packaging, but this should not be taken as a sign that they are safe or legal."
Anyone who is worried about the health of someone they believe may have taken these products is asked to call NHS 111 or 999 in an emergency.
If you have information about the supply of these sweets, or if you find similar sweets or related packaging, do not destroy them, but contact Surrey Police quoting reference PR/P21120295.
