Police are investigating after parts of a Remembrance display in Guildford were stolen.

Officers were called to Tunsgate on Armistice Day (11 November) shortly after the national two-minute silence at 11am.

It was noticed that items including a military jacket and scarf were missing when ex-service personnel and staff from the shopping centre observed the silence at the display.

A 31-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of theft after being initially detained by centre security staff.

The suspect was detained under the 2007 Mental Health Act.

Surrey Police said enquiries remain ongoing.
