A junior school and a nursery had to lockdown this afternoon as armed officers from Surrey Policed responded to an incident in Bagshot.

It is following a report that a man was seen with what appeared to be a firearm near Connaught Junior School in Bagshot just after 1.30pm this afternoon (23 September).

A spokesperson for Surrey Police told Greatest Hits Radio Surrey and East Hampshire armed officers carried out a thorough search of the immediate area and no one matching the description was found.

A police drone was also deployed to assist with the search.

The school and the nearby Little Echoes Day Nursery instigated their lockdown procedures to ensure all pupils and staff remained safe.

Following the completion of the search, the lockdown procedures are now being lifted to allow parents to collect their children.

The Surrey Police spokesperson said:

"Officers remain in the area if anyone has any specific concerns or questions, and we would like to thank the school, nursery, parents and local residents for their support and cooperation.’
