Two people bailed after Stowmarket sexual assault investigation

Two people arrested in connection with a sexual assault in Stowmarket last month have been released on bail as the investigation continues.

The attack happened between 5:45am and 6am on 19th November, when a woman in her 30s was running along a pathway off Iliffe Way.

She told police that a man approached her, pulled her to the ground, and sexually assaulted her.

Yesterday, 3rd December, police arrested two people as part of their enquiries.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and attempted rape, while a 49-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both were questioned at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre before being released on bail.

The victim is being supported by specialist trained officers and has worked with detectives on the investigation.

The man connected to the assault is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build, and was wearing a dark woolly beanie hat, a thick, dark rain jacket, and dark trousers.

He is also described as smelling strongly of cigarettes and cannabis.

Police have thanked the public for their help and continue appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
