Thousands of pounds worth of damage after 750 tonnes of straw set alight near Sudbury

Fire crews and police were called to land near Great Waldingfield airfield over the weekend

Police are appealing for information after around 750 tonnes of straw was set alight near Sudbury over the weekend.

The incident, near the former Great Waldingfield airfield, caused thousands of pounds of damage.

Officers believe the fire was set deliberately between 4pm and 5:30pm on Saturday (September 17).

A group of young people were seen on the straw stacks prior to the blaze.

Anyone who witnessed the arson is being urged to contact Suffolk Police.
