Two teenage girls have been arrested on suspicion of assault after a man was found unconscious near a basketball court in Stowmarket.

Police say the man was injured at some point before 6.10pm on Friday 3rd September, in a park known as Big Park, near Creeting Road East in the Cedars Park area of town.

The man in his 40s was found after it's believed he was involved in an altercation with a group of teenagers.

He was taken to Ipswich Hospital and suffered bruising and a cut, and a head injury.

Officers arrested two 16 year-old girls shortly after on suspicion of assault.

One of the teens was also arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a Class B or C drug.

They have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Police want to speak to four teenagers, both male and female, with an older man, in the vicinity of the park and nearby area shortly before and after the incident.

Officers are carrying out further patrols of the area as the investigation continues.
