A 16 year old boy has died in hospital after being stabbed in Haverhill earlier this week.

Harley Barfield, who was from the town, was seriously injured at around 3pm on Monday (January 9) in a car park next to Strasbourg Square.

It's reported he was involved in a fight with another teenage boy who later fled the scene towards Millfields Way.

Harley was initially taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, before being transferred to specialists at the Royal Papworth Hospital.

He passed away this morning.

A 16 year old boy from Haverhill who was arrested on Monday night is now being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Yesterday police were granted permission to hold the teenager for a further 36 hours for questioning.

Detectives think both boys are known to each other and this was an isolated incident.

Harley's family and several key witnesses are being supported by specialist officiers.

Police are still appealing for information about what happened, especially from anyone who was in Strasbourg Square, Ingham Road, Millfields Way, the A143 or the High Street areas on Monday.
