Suffolk's PCC is open to a knife crime coalition
It follows a letter from Ipswich MP Jack Abbott
Suffolk's Police and Crime Commissioner is open to the idea of a knife crime coalition.
It comes following a letter from Ipswich MP Jack Abbott in which he addressed tackling the source of knife crime.
The coalition would bring together local political institutions, the police and other relevant stakeholders from across Suffolk - including educational and youth professionals - to review and refresh existing local knife crime strategies.
PCC Tim Passmore told us he is open to further discussions with Mr Abbott:
Ultimately it's about reducing and eliminating any violence and disorder, knife crime and so on, not just in Ipswich, which is our county town but elsewhere. And I'm sure if we work together we can improve the situation.
He also mentioned that recent reports have shown Suffolk has the fourth lowest recorded crime level of any other area in England Wales.
he added:
"That's something to be applauded, but it doesn't mean there aren't difficulties and there are, and we need to work together to deal with it."
"Norfolk mum whose son was fatally stabbed in Ipswich calls for more effort to tackle knife crime"
If the coalition goes ahead Mr Passmore also want's to bring in local residents and businesses to come up with ideas of what might work to tackle the ongoing issue of knife crime.
