Environmental campaigners from Suffolk are taking to the streets of Lowestoft and Ipswich from midday today, as part of a global day of action on climate change.

The rally will be taking place from midday and will see environmental activists from Suffolk conduct marches and listen to a range of speakers.

Covid restrictions means many have been unable to go to Glasgow for the summit itself, so they've have organised local rallies.

Louise Gooch is an East Suffolk councillor for Kirkley and Pakefield and will be attending the event.

She says its all about informing people

"We are trying at Council to make sure that we can address environmental education in the most deprived wards. So those that are struggling at the moment aren't the ones pay for changes to environmental policy".

She says the event this afternoon could really help send a powerful message

"I think it's vital that people of a variety of political parties and those of none, get involved and show that the difficult decisions that need to be made are supported by the will of the people".

She says this is an issue, where everyone needs to be involved

"It's really important to reach out to all members of the community to let people know what needs to change in terms of environmental policies and what this affects more generally".

She concluded by saying the perceptions that currently surrounds environmentalism, desperately needs to change

"Unfortunately, Climate activism is so often seen as a pursuit of the middle class, but it shouldn't be this way because after all, it affects all of us".
