A woman from Suffolk is walking 24 peaks in 24 hours for Motor Neurone Disease.

Alongside 19 other women, they're taking on the challenge and raising money for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

The members of the group come from all over, but mainly Suffolk, Essex, Huddersfield, Gloucester, and London (sw18). as well as Kendal, Keswick, Staffordshire and Norfolk.

Founded by Doddie Weir OBE, the foundation was launched in 2017 after the Scottish Rugby player revealed he had Motor Neurone Disease.

MND is a disease which affects the motor neurons of the nervous system. It is life shortening and mostly progresses rapidly.

Among those taking part in the Challenge later this month are three physiotherapists who witness the daily struggles of MND patients. Another of the team lost her father to the disease, her resolve fuelled by a promise to honour his memory.

Witnessing Rob Burrow's relentless battle against MND has fuelled the fire in many of them with some of their own friends fighting the disease every day within their own families.

They head to the Lake District for the challenge on the 24th May, 24hrs, no stopping and no sleeping with the aim to help towards finding a cure.

Anna Hall from Suffolk said:

"The money will go to the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation who then fund research into all sorts including finding a cure because it's a fatal disease that has no cure at the moment and its a real push t help find a cure.

I think there will be some very sore feet, but some incredibly proud hikers, the exhilaration with be immense, it will just be wonderful."

The team have nearly raised their ÂŁ40,000 target with more challenges in the pipeline and the aim of raising ÂŁ400,000 by the end of next year.
