Suffolk MP marks Kickstart Scheme milestone
Thousands of young people are now in work.
Suffolk Coastal MP, Therese Coffey, has been marking a milestone of the Government's Kickstart Scheme.
The project aims to help get the next generation on to the job ladder by teaming up with businesses to provide Kickstart vacancies.
More than 260 young people have been starting new jobs every day over the last six weeks, bringing the total involved now to more than 16,500.
Overall, more than 195,000 Kickstart jobs have been approved nationwide, which will be available in the coming months to 16-24 year-old's, who are at risk of long-term unemployment.
Therese Coffey, who's also the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said: "“The Kickstart scheme is playing a vital role helping our next generation of workers get onto the jobs ladder – hundreds of young people are starting their Kickstart jobs every day and more vacancies are becoming available all the time.
Pavanjeet Soor, M&S Kickstart employee, said: “My Job Centre coach recommended that I apply to the Kickstart scheme. I could see there were lots of benefits so I decided to go for it. I am looking forward to selling quality products and providing good service, as well as working in a positive environment.”
The Department for Work and Pensions has hired 13,500 dedicated Work Coaches to help spearhead efforts to get people, who's employment has been impacted by Covid-19, back into work.
