Suffolk man arrested after assault on police officer at illegal New Year's rave
Police were called to an industrial unit in St Ives - finding around 200 people at a party on the site
A Suffolk man has been arrested after an assault on a police officer at an illegal New Year's Eve rave in Cambridgeshire.
Police were called to an industrial unit in Edison Road in St Ives at around 9:30pm on Saturday (December 31), finding around 200 people partying on the site.
Eleven officers were assaulted as they attempted to block access to the site.
Two officers suffered cuts to the head after being pelted with glass bottles, while another was pushed to the ground and kicked.
Several vehicles on the estate were also vandalised.
A 27 year old man from Wattisfield, in Mid Suffolk, has been questioned on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, possession of an offensive weapon and obstructing a police officer.
He has been released on bail.
PC Charlie-Ann Brett of Cambridgeshire Police said: “This was a shocking incident that saw numerous officers assaulted while policing a large-scale disorder at the industrial estate in St Ives.
“No-one should come to work and be assaulted in this disgraceful manner and we will not tolerate this level of violence towards officers.
“I am appealing to anyone with information to get in touch with us, in particular, any businesses with CCTV footage of the event or people going to or from the site.”
