Cyclists hit the roads in Suffolk to raise money for Firefighters Charity
Suffolk Fire is hosting a charity cycling event today (4th July).
Cyclists will be taking to the roads of Suffolk today for the Fire and Rescue Service's charity 'Fire Ride'.
The 2021 Suffolk Fire Ride will see participants choose from either a 50km or 100km, or a local route to get the whole family involved.
It will start at Felixstowe Fire Station, allowing competitors to enjoy the rolling hills and picturesque countryside of Suffolk, before enjoying all the attractions that the seaside town has to offer.
The Fire Ride promises a fun day out for the whole family not to mention the guarantee of a well-earned meal after the ride, all while raising money for a good cause.
The event is organised to comply with all COVID-19 measures to ensure the safety of all riders, with participants registered beforehand and cyclists riding in smaller groups.
Dan Fearn, Interim Chief Fire Officer for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, commented: “The Suffolk Fire Ride is a much loved and eagerly anticipated annual event, and we are always grateful for the support of those taking part and their family and friends.
"The ride is open to cyclists of all abilities and the money raised from the event will go towards supporting fire fighters across the country through the Fire Fighter charity”.
Laura Challis, Community, Corperate and Events Fundraiser of The Fire Fighters Charity urged: “The money raised from the event will go to the Fire Fighters Charity, Suffolk would like the money raised to support beneficiaries with mental health issues.
"Mental health surrounding the Fire and Rescue service has increased because of Covid, with more individuals coming forward with mental health problems.
"We’ve pushed forwards our digital transformation project and we’ve been delivering online counselling sessions as part of that mental health programmes for a year and a half, we’ve had around 3000 people in the first year access that service
"The more funds raised the more we would be able to help those people, more money would pay for more resources and then we can help more people!”
