Suffolk fire crews tackle fire at Bury sugar processing plant

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service says fifteen of their fire crews have been tackling a fire at a British Sugar processing plant in Bury St Edmunds.

Crews were called at 15.50 on Thursday 18th February to a fire involving a conveyor belt system on Hollow Road.

Crews from Bury St Edmunds, Thetford, Newmarket, Wickhambrook, Ixworth, Haverhill, Woodbridge and Cambridge attended.

The fire covered an area of around 30 metres squared across multiple floors of the high rise building.

Hose reel jets, thermal imaging cameras, six firefighters with breathing apparatus, and one hydrant were used to put out the fire.

No one was injured and Suffolk Fire says it was dealt with quickly with the stop call coming at 17.43.
