Plans for a new park cafe in Sudbury have been submitted.

The plans had previously been announced at the end of August and were presented to Babergh’s cabinet on September 5, where funding was agreed to by councillors.

Now, nearly two months since, Babergh council has received a planning application for a new café and toilet facilities at Belle Vue Park, in Sudbury, costing £150,000.

The cafe, which would allow up to 50 people to enjoy the public space, comes amidst long-standing calls from residents for development in the area.

The new facilities would follow the demolition of the existing toilet block, described as being ‘in poor and regularly vandalised condition’.

The proposals, however, include improved security and supervision of the café and its surrounding areas in a bid to combat anti-social behaviour in the area.

The funding approved for the project in September would include £105,000 to be used from the existing £1.9m budget for works at Belle Vue, with the remaining £45,000 to come from the Government’s Changing Place grant.

The Government funding, however, means the development must be completed and delivered at the turn of the new financial year by March 31, 2024.

This application will also run alongside separate proposals to deliver a new park entrance to increase accessibility.
