Storm Darcy: Disruption continues across Suffolk

More snow and ice is forecast in the county.

Storm Darcy continues to bring disruption across Suffolk again today.

A Met Office yellow weather warning remains in force across the East until midnight on Wednesday 9th February.

Public Health England has extended its cold weather alert through until Friday 12th February.

East of England Ambulance Service has been encouraging people to check on their vulnerable neighbours if they can do it in a Covid-safe manner.

Vaccinations

A number of vaccination centre's across Suffolk are going to remain shut today due to the weather.

Two large-scale centres in Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds are closed.

Essex Partnership University Trust has confirmed the two centres in Suffolk are expected to reopen tomorrow.

Anyone that still isn't keen on travelling in the cold weather though can rearrange their appointment online.

A number of the smaller vaccination sites across the county will also be closed.

Not all vaccination appointments have been cancelled though, there are some sites still open today.

School closures

A number of school's in the county have confirmed they'll be closed again to all pupils today due to the snow and icy conditions on the roads making travel unsafe.

Travel

The general advice from Suffolk Police continues to be do not head out unless you absolutely have to, people are being asked to reconsider essential journey's over the next few days.

Those who have to head out are being reminded to make sure their vehicle is ready for the journey.

Suffolk Highways has been out on the roads continuously over the last couple of days trying to keep essential routes clear.

The Environment Agency is also reminding people to be careful on the roads due to snow, ice and flood water across the region.

Ipswich Buses has confirmed that a Sunday service will continue to operate in the town on Tuesday 9th February due to icy conditions on the roads.

While on the trains, Greater Anglia has confirmed there are service issues on the London main line. The advice is to check before travelling.

Other disruption

A number of other services across the county have been affected by the weather.

Bin collections in a number of areas were cancelled yesterday and recycling centres in the county were closed.

East Suffolk Council's confirmed they won't be making it round today to collect bins as they'd hoped.

The Royal Mail has said in a statement that they've been out delivering and collecting wherever it's safe to do so but said some addresses may experience disruption due to the adverse weather conditions.

Lockdown rules

Ipswich Borough Council is reminding people that it is still important to stick to lockdown rules even if you are out enjoying the snow.
