Police apologise after cars damaged on A14 during stinger operation
The efforts to stop a suspect vehicle near Newmarket went wrong
Police have apologised and say an investigation's been launched after a number of cars were damaged during a stinger operation on the A14 at Newmarket, which went wrong.
At around 6.30pm last night (Thursday 27th January) fully trained officers from the Roads and Armed Policing Team were trying to use a stinger to intercept a suspect vehicle on the A14.
It's understood that during preparations, two HGVs travelling past the site, caused the stinger to move.
As a result, several cars belonging to members of the public sustained damage to their tyres.
All the vehicles were removed from the carriageway, and officers helped with recovery and arranging for repairs.
The force says it would like to "sincerely apologise" to all those involved and say an investigation is now underway into what happened.
