St Elizabeth Hospice is challenging people to walk in the shoes of a nurse from today (1 May).

It's part of the virtual fundraiser, Steps of a Nurse, to get people to walk the distance its nurses cover while caring for patients and their families.

According to St Elizabeth Hospice, which asked nurses to where step-trackers, they walk approximately 15,285 steps a day each, totaling around 190 miles a month.

Members of the public are being asked to match that across the space of two months, working out at around 7,600 steps a day until 30 June.

Joanne Rodger, Events and Challenges Manager at St Elizabeth Hospice, previously said:

"They were quite surprised when we asked them to put a Fitbit on to see how far they actually walked over their shifts. When you add them all up, it's insane the lengths they go to and that they're on their feet so much. We do owe them quite a lot.

"We're hoping as many people as possible will join us for this one because they can do it in their own time and they can walk with friends in parks."

People can participate in the challenge by signing up with a donation via the charity's website.
