Eight men have been sentenced for their involvement in gang violence and drug dealing in Ipswich.

The group have been handed a combined 19 years in prison, while five were also given Criminal Behaviour Orders.

One of the group - a 17 year old - admitted GBH after a serious assault in Upper Brook Street last June.

"t became increasingly apparent that those involved were members of a local gang"

Detective Inspector Thomas Pearse said:

“Despite a lack of support from those involved, convictions were successfully secured against all four people who were part of the attack.

“As the investigation progressed it became increasingly apparent that those involved were members of a local gang.

“As well as investigating the four individuals for violence, investigators placed increased scrutiny on known associates in the form of proactive policing operations, securing convictions for drug supply and other offences.”

"The message for those that wish to affiliate with gangs in Ipswich is clear. Your behaviour will result in increased scrutiny and detailed investigations around linked offences.

“Gang related violence and drug supply are intrinsically linked. We will not only look to prosecute those involved in violent incidents like the one witnessed in June last year; investigations will follow into all those connected to these individuals who are involved in bringing drug and gang-related criminality and associated violence into our town.”
