Second man arrested in connection with fatal stabbing in Ipswich

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with a fatal stabbing that took place in Ipswich on Tuesday 6 August.

Emergency services were called to Burrell Road shortly after 7.10pm on 6 August following reports that a woman had been stabbed.

Officers attended and found a woman who had suffered serious injuries. Despite treatment by emergency services personnel the woman sadly died a short time later in hospital.

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, she has been identified as Courtney Mitchell, 26, from Ipswich.

A 27-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on Wednesday 7 August, in Ipswich on suspicion of murder and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Logan Burnett, 27, of All Saints Road, Ipswich, was subsequently charged with murder.

A second man was arrested yesterday, Monday 12 August. The man, aged 35, from Ipswich, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He was subsequently bailed with conditions to return to police on on 12 October.

A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct by Essex Police regarding previous contact from the force with the deceased.
