RNLI rescue 12 rowers off Suffolk coast

12 people have been saved by Harwich RNLI, from a cross-Atlantic rowing vessel on the Essex Suffolk coast.

Crews were called on Wednesday (May 22nd) 38 miles east of Landguard Point, where the 12-metre cross-Atlantic rowing vessel had issued a distress call.

The all-weather Harwich lifeboat arrived around 1:50pm, where one ill passenger had already been airlifted by helicopter to Ipswich Hospital, and has seen reported to be in a stable condition.

RNLI crew members found "the majority of the rowing vessel's crew were incapacitated" with many suffering from extreme seasickness and exhuaustion.

The vessel was towed back to Harwich, arriving at around 8pm, with the lifeboat refuelled and ready to be called out again by 9:30pm.
