Suffolk drug poisoning deaths rose slightly last year
44 people died in the county from drug poisoning in 2019
The number of deaths related to drug poisoning in Suffolk increased by 4 last year.
44 people died in the county last year, up from 40 in 2018. The majority of those deaths (15) happened in East Suffolk and Ipswich.
Although 2019's figures still show a sharp increase from back in 2006, when 12 people died from drug poisoning.
The figures, from the Office for National Statistics, define drug poisoning as having an undetermined intent.
Across England and Wales there were nearly 4,400 deaths from drug poisoning in 2019, which is also the highest level since records began in 1993.
