Armed officers and a police helicopter were called to Sudbury yesterday afternoon after reports a man had made threats to members of the public with an imitation gun.

It happened in the People Park Way and First Avenue areas yesterday (August 22) at around 5:30pm.

Several units were sent to find the suspect, with armed police called as is routine when firearms are thought to be involved in an incident.

Nobody was hurt and no arrests were made.

Officers are treating it as an isolated incident and are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Policing commander for Sudbury Inspector Ben Hollands, said: “Incidents such as this are not common in Sudbury and there is no ongoing threat to the community.”

“We are treating this as an isolated matter involving people who are known to each other, so do not believe there is any cause for concern to the wider public.

“However, we understand the distress this incident has caused to those involved and that there are also children impacted.

"This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and I urge anyone who has information that could assist us to contact police.”
