Reindeer cause havoc on A11 in Suffolk

Police were called after the herd wandered on to the road

A herd of reindeer have been causing chaos on a major road in Suffolk this weekend when a herd wandered on to the A11.

Drivers were left stuck in major delays and police were called to try and catch the "large number" of reindeer near Barton Mills.

The animals stopped vehicles in both directions at around 3:20pm.

Suffolk Police closed the road and tried to catch the reindeer, which eventually left the road at around 5:20pm when the carriageway was reopened.

In an update on X, National Highways East said: "@suffolkpolice have closed the #A11 near #BartonMills in both directions between #A1134 #Thetford and #A1101 due to several deer loose in carriageway.

"Plans are being made to get traffic within the closure released and we will update as soon as we get further news from scene."

In an update at 4.45pm, National Highways East said a "large number" of reindeer were on the road and that police were "trying to catch them".
