Lockdown lifted at RAF Mildenhall after 'active shooter' incident
The USAF base in north Suffolk was plunged into lockdown yesterday afternoon
A lockdown that was declared at RAF Mildenhall yesterday afternoon, after reports of an 'active shooter' on the USAF base, has now been lifted.
Authorities raised the alarm at around 1:18pm yesterday (April 25) and prevented anyone anyone leaving or entering the base over fears someone with a gun was shooting as service personnel.
However the incident has since been declared a false alarm. No injuries have been reported.
In a statement, Col. Gene Jacobus, 100th Air Refueling Wing Commander, said:
“Today we are thankful for the quick reaction of our Airmen who are highly trained and ready to respond to any situation.”
“In this case we are thankful it was determined there was no active shooter. The safety of our personnel and families is always a priority, and the base is committed to maintain a safe and secure environment.”
