Police in Ipswich have been granted addtional stop and search powers after a 17 year old boy was stabbed last night (July 20).

Officers were called by the ambulance service just after 9:50pm after reports a teenager had been attacked by a group of young men carrying knives.

The victim was reportedly chased from Silent Street, through Cromwell Square and Franciscan Way before he was stabbed in the legs and arms on Princes Street.

The Section 60 order covers most of the town

He's currently in hospital for treatment.

A Section 60 order is in place until 10:55pm tonight covering the majority of Ipswich.

As part of the powers, officers will be allowed to stop and search without reasonable grounds, but where there is a risk of violence or a belief that weapons are being carried.

Police believe the attack is random and think the victim knew his attackers.
