Plans for a new doctor's surgery to serve the north-west of Ipswich are moving ahead, with the hunt now on for a consultant to lead the construction.

The new building will go on the site of the former Tooks Bakery, at the junction of Bury Road and Old Norwich Road.

It will have 29 clinic rooms, 11 nurse rooms and a minor operating suite.

When completed, it will become one of the largest GP surgeries in the town.

It's being built to serve the growing population of the north-west side of town.

Councillor Martin Cook, an Ipswich Borough Council cabinet member, said:

“This is such an important development for the people of north-west Ipswich, enabling Cardinal Medical Practice to deliver a wide range of services under one modern roof."

"Ipswich Borough Council and local NHS partners have worked very hard to drive this project, and we look forward to receiving tenders from contractors, as well as a lead design consultant, interested in seeing the building take shape ahead of building works in 2024.”
