The Orwell Bridge is likely to remain partially closed for much of the rest of today, after a crash involving a truck carrying a skip this morning.

The vehicle crossed the central reservation at around 11:08am, with the police, ambulance crews and the fire service being called to the scene.

The driver of the HGV was treated at the scene by paramedics but didn't suffer life threatening injuries.

The road is now open in both directions between junctions 56 and 57, although it is down to one lane..

Due to damage to the barrier, one lane on either side of the bridge will have to remain closed to apply for repair work to take place.

National Highways says it will attempt a fix tonight, although that is dependent on being able to secure the right materials at short notice.
