Norfolk and Suffolk MPs offer cautious optimism about 2023
It comes after a difficult and chaotic 2022, at home and abroad
MPs from Norfolk and Suffolk says it's possible, but not guaranteed, that the economy will be in a better place, this time next year.
It comes after a difficult and chaotic year which has been dominated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine that has fuelled eye-watering inflation for the prices essential goods.
"I hope we see that the cost of living has improved a great deal"
Duncan Baker, the MP for North Norfolk, told us why he's feeling hopeful:
"I think we are already starting to see the cost of living and inflationary pressures that we are under show some green-shoots of being under control.
"I hope that by the end of the year-we see that cost of living has improved a great deal.
"We know that the Russian are now into the empty period of what's in their cupboards and I hope that that's also an area where we can see some green-shoots, where Ukraine can end this war and we can return to some world peace".
"It hits the poorest hardest"
Peter Aldous, the MP for Waveney, told us he's hopeful the current political and economic stability will remain:
"Inflation is something we have not had imbedded in the economy for 40 years or so. It hits the poorest hardest and the Government are therefore right to be focussing on getting it out of our system".
"If the Government can hold it's course that it's set then I think it quite possible that we can get through 2023 and things will be a lot better at the end of it"
