CCTV watching over Sudbury and Hadleigh
£180,000 system has 28 cameras being monitored 24/7
If you get the feeling someone's watching you in Sudbury or Hadleigh - that might very well be the case.
The two towns new CCTV system's gone online.
Babergh District Council's invested 180-thousand pounds in the new system with 28 cameras across the two towns that'll be monitored 24 hours a day.
Cllr Derek Davis, cabinet member for Communities for Babergh District Council commented, "It is credit to the hard work of Babergh’s communities team and fellow councillors that the new CCTV system is now fully operational.
"I’d also like to thank the police and town councils for working closely with us on the proposals – paving the way for further partnership work to help us achieve our common vision for communities with bright and healthy futures.
"Of course, CCTV isn’t the only answer to tackling crime, however it is an important tool in deterring criminals and reducing anti-social behaviour, and forms part of our council’s wider effort to keep Babergh’s towns safe, attractive and successful places for people to live and work in."
Cllr Sue Ayres, Mayor of Sudbury, said, "We are delighted with the new CCTV system that is being installed in Sudbury to replace the old cameras that have not been working for some time.
"This project has shown how, by working collaboratively and pooling resources, Babergh District Council, Sudbury Town Council and Suffolk Constabulary can achieve a really positive outcome for local residents, businesses and visitors alike.
"We hope that this will help the police focus on reducing anti-social behaviour in the town centre and increase the confidence of our local population, encouraging more shopping and cultural activity in the evenings.”
Cllr Frank Minns, Mayor of Hadleigh commented, "These new cameras will help Hadleigh to remain a very safe place to live, and give our residents confidence that crime and anti-social behaviour will be deterred and if necessary detected and prosecuted. This is an excellent collaborative project that everyone here will welcome.”
