Sam Morsy has left Ipswich Town.
The club say he has chosen to take up a new opportunity in the Middle East with Kuwait SC after four years at Portman Road.
The former captain was central to Ipswich’s progress since joining in 2021, leading the team to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League. He also captained the side during their first top-flight season in nearly 25 years.
Morsy made 165 appearances for Ipswich, scoring 11 goals. His performances in the 2023/24 season earned him both the club’s Player of the Year award and the PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year.
“Playing for and captaining Ipswich Town has been the biggest honour of my career”...
... Morsy said. “We have had some incredible days and nights together and I will remember many of these for the rest of my life.”
He added: “Achieving back-to-back promotions allowed me and many of my team-mates to achieve our dreams of playing in the Premier League, so I will always feel indebted to Kieran, his staff, everyone at the club and the supporters for helping us get there.”
Morsy also thanked fans for their support: “I will always be grateful for the love and support everyone has shown me and my family during my four years here and I’m confident the club has plenty of successful days ahead as it continues on the journey we have started.”
He concluded: “My time at the club may have come to an end but I will be watching from afar and will always be a Town fan.”
Ipswich Town said Morsy and his family will always be welcome and wished him well for the future.
