Mildenhall Stadium 'significantly damaged' after fire

Mildenhall Stadium has suffered 'significant damage' following a huge fire.

In a statement on social media, a spokesperson for the site said: "Mildenhall Stadium was the victim of a huge fire on Tuesday 30th July - causing significant damage at the venue which we have worked so hard at to make it one of the most popular oval motorsport tracks in the country, hosting countless events and enjoyed by thousands.

"We would like to confirm that thankfully nobody was injured during the devastating scenes, and would also like to thank the firefighters who tackled the blaze."

Firefighters spent the night putting out the blaze which broke out in a barn containing machinery at around 5:30pm yesterday evening (Tuesday 30th July).

18 teams from across Suffolk and Cambridgeshire help put out the fire, on Hayland Drove, West Row.

The incident was scaled down the incident around 11:30pm last night - though a couple of teams remain on site this morning.

No injuries were reported.
