A Lowestoft man has been jailed after threatening staff at a takeaway with a what appeared to be a gun, before stealing a drink.

It happened at the Kings Kebab shop on London Road on Tuesday 21 September 20201. Police were called at around 11:40pm.

A few minutes later police were called to reports a man had been threatened with a firearm in the communal area of a flat on London Road South.

33-year-old Daniel Burrows, of London Road South, was arrested early the next day and charged with robbery, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a Class B drug.

Police later recovered a gas powered gun in a wall off Bixley Green. It was found to be defenctive and inoperable.

Burrows admitted to the offences and on Monday (January 17) was sentenced to 40 months in prison. He'll also have to pay a fine.

Detective Constable Edward Vincent, of Suffolk Police, said:

“Daniel Burrows is vulnerable due to his mental health, but his use and consumption of narcotics does not help his mental health in any way.

"Prior to this offence, he made indications that he wished to seek medical help for a mental health episode he felt he was having.

"However, his intent on using a firearm to commit an offence and gaining possession of this prior to the incident shows a degree of forward planning.

"The gravity of the offence and the threat and stress imposed on members of the public is, without doubt, massive.”
