Man left in serious condition after car crashes into Ipswich building

The passenger was cut free following the collision on Tacket Street.

A man's been serious injured after the car he was traveling in crash into a building in Ipswich.

It happened on Tacket Street around 4am (Sunday, 22 September).

Police were called following reports of a single vehicle collision, where a car reported left the road and collided with a building.

Police, ambulance and fire crew were in attendance to the scene.

The front passenger of the car, a man, had to be extracted from the vehicle and has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving after he failed a roadside drugs wipe test.

He has been taken to Ipswich Hospital as a precaution, following which he will be transported to police custody for questioning.

The collision caused damage to two businesses.

Tacket Street is currently closed at the junction with Cox Lane.

Police do not believe anyone else was involved the in the collision and it is not believed to be connected to the assault that took place in the town centre last night.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.
