Man convicted of murder after fatal stabbing in Leiston
He was involved in a series of assaults - after becoming convinced his girlfriend was cheating on him
A man has been convicted of murder following a fatal stabbing last year in Leiston.
29 year old Oskars Kantors, of Old School Close, was found guilty at Ipswich Crown Court following a two week trial.
The victim in the case, 41 year old Agris Leigavnieks, was found seriously injured at a home on Old School Close, on October 17 2022.
He later died at Ipswich Hospital.
Kantors was soon considered a suspect in the case and was arrested close to the scene on the same day.
He was initially held under guard at Ipswich Hospital after being injured in an earlier assault.
The court heard how the murder and two assaults were motivated by Kantors' belief that his ex-girlfriend had been cheating on him.
Kantors had attacked a 50 year old man at a flat on the High Street at around 5pm, punching him in the face several times.
In a second incident a woman in her 20s was attacked at a home on Old School Close at approximately 8:20pm, in front of her young child.
Kantors, who had previously worked with the woman's boyfriend, grabbed the victim by the hair before throwing her to the ground.
The final attack happened on Mr Leigavnieks happened shortly after this incident.
Soon after, Kantors told a neighbour he was involved in the stabbing.
The court heard how Kantors had been drinking throughout the day. He claimed he was an alcoholic and was of diminished responsibility when he attacked Mr Leigavnieks.
Kantors will be sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday (November 17).
